In an article titled “Wired for
Success: Understand your child’s brain to communicate better”
published in www.family.sg in Oct 2006, by
Vivi Zainol, she asked the questions: nature or nurture? Do your genes make you
who you are, or is it your environment? She went on to suggest that scientists
today believe that there is no simple answer to this nature-versus-nurture
controversy.
The answer is, both, says brain research expert,
teacher and entrepreneur, Dr Geil Browning. "Who you are today is a result
of certain characteristics that have emerged from your life experiences,
coupled with genetics or the blueprint with which you were born. I call this
interplay between nature and nurture, Emergenetics," says Browning, who
has authored Emergenetics – Tap Into the New Science of Success, and who is the
Chairman of Emergenetics Asia Pte Ltd.
In the
early 1990s, genome research revealed that people come into the world
genetically wired a certain way, but life events or their environment determine
whether they grow up the way their genes had programmed them. The latest
advances in brain scanning technology have also revealed more about how the
brain works.
Based on
this latest research, Browning and Wendell Williams came up with Emergenetics,
a diagnostic instrument, which has been tested and used on over 300,000 people
globally.
Emergenetics
is a profiling instrument based on scientific research
that indicates that individuals are genetically pre-wired at
birth to think and act in certain ways, and these traits change as a
result of social/environmental factors i.e.emerging from our
life experiences. The combination of genetics and experiences
intertwine to form recognizable patterns that can be used to improve
communication and productivity.
Developed by Dr. Geil Browning,
Ph.D. and Dr. Wendell Williams, Ph.D. after extensive research involving over
300,000 adults and children (over the age of 9), Emergenetics
Ò
provides insightful information on a combination of
thinking preferences and behavioural attributes.
With over 23 years of practice and
research, the Emergenetics® Profile provides information on four thinking
attributes (Analytical, Structural, Social, Conceptual) and three behavioral
attributes (Expressive, Assertive, Flexibility).
